Herbert B. Garey “Herb”, age 86, of North Reading, passed away unexpectedly on September 5, 2018, at the Winchester Hospital.

In November of 1952, Herb was inducted into the United States Army during the Korean War. Herb served overseas for much of his tour of duty and was awarded several commendations including the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal just to name a few. Herb was honorably discharged on October 15, 1954 and returned home to Massachusetts.

On April 5, 1953, Herb married “his sweetheart” Theresa “Terry” Yentile; the couple lived in Wakefield for several years before moving to North Reading in November of 1963. Herb was a wonderful husband who loved to cook and take care of their home. Herb and Terry spent many wonderful times together with their family and friends throughout the years; making countless memories for everyone to share.

For many years, Herb, worked for the Town of Reading School Department as a custodian. Herb was very kind and really enjoyed working with the teachers and seeing the students. Herb also loved his “odd jobs” throughout the years especially when he drove the ice cream truck around Wilmington. Herb was actually a “jack of all trades” and loved a challenge; he always had be the first one in the neighborhood to try out the latest thing on the market or a new gadget just to see how it all worked.

Herb’s “adventurous” side led him to countless trips with his family and friends to Las Vegas, Foxwoods, Twin Rivers and Mohegan just to try his luck. He also enjoyed playing the lottery and his weekly scratch tickets to see if he could “win big”.

In his spare time, Herb, liked to golf and go bowling with his buddies and looked forward to spending time with his family and friends. Herb was truly a “nice guy” who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Herb was the beloved husband of Theresa “Terry” (Yentile) Garey, cherished son of the late Mary E. (Clish) and Louis Bonaiuto, dear brother of the late Mary Flower. Herb is also survived by his brother-in-law Vincent Yentile of Wilmington as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
