Holloway, John

John C. “Jack” Holloway, age 81, of Wolfeboro, NH, formerly of Wilmington, MA, died peacefully on Monday, December 6, 2010, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, NH.

Born in Everett, MA on August 22, 1929, Jack was the cherished son of the late John T. and Tena (Batten) Holloway. Jack was raised in Melrose, MA and was a graduate of Melrose High School. He joined the National Guard during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in May of 1956 as a First Sergeant.

Jack married Mary Ann Grace on November 18, 1950, and celebrated over 53 years of marriage before her passing in November of 2003. The couple moved to Wilmington in September of 1955 to raise their five children, Jack became very involved with his children’s sports programs. He was very instrumental in running the Wilmington Pop Warner Program and was a coach for many years, volunteering countless hours for the youth of Wilmington. As his children got older Jack moved up to the high school level of football, he could be found on the side lines volunteering to do the chains and rooting on the Wilmington Wildcats. Jack was very involved with the Wilmington Boosters Club, again volunteering for many hours to raise money for Wilmington youth sports programs. Jack not only enjoyed watching his own children, but was also there to encourage and teach the many children that played on his teams or in the programs that he was involved in.

Prior to retiring, Jack was a credit manager for several local companies such as Avco, Sweetheart Plastics and Photon before retiring from Textron in the mid 1990’s. Jack and Mary were owners of the Stop & Go Shop in North Wilmington which they enjoyed running during the 70’s.

Jack and Mary enjoyed their retirement, they liked to travel and spent much time between Florida and Wolfeboro, NH. They enjoyed their home on Oakdale Road where they hosted many family & friends gatherings over the years and everyone was welcome. Jack loved his family, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather they made many memories together as a family that will be cherished for years to come.

Jack was the beloved husband of the late Mary A. (Grace) Holloway, devoted father of Steven Holloway & his wife Terri, Jack Holloway & his wife Gail all of Wilmington, Cindy Calligandes of Wolfeboro, NH, Mark Holloway of Portsmouth, NH, and the late Scott Holloway. Loving grandfather of Lauren & Dan Bennett, Brent & Mariesa Holloway, Janel & Mort Smith, Jacqueline & Dan Bento, Billy & Danielle Holloway, Katie Holloway, Jeff Calligandes, Jon Calligandes, Danielle Calligandes & her fiancé Austin Maher, Dave Holloway, Carlene Holloway, Tom Holloway, Katherine Holloway, John Holloway, the late Melissa Holloway and great grandchildren Audrey Bennett, Nadia & Braden Smith, Brooklyn, Will, & Hunter Holloway, and Jack Holloway, dear brother of the late Martha Nelson, Jack is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, for a funeral service on Saturday, December 11th at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours Friday, December 10th from 3-8 p.m.
