Hugh was born on April 20, 1934 in Dublin, GA; he was the cherished son of the late Anna (Nadreau) Dickerson. Hugh moved to Mass. as a young child; he was raised and educated in Charlestown and Brighton.
Hugh met and married his wife of more than 56 years, the late Patricia E. (Dion) Dickerson. The couple initially lived in Malden, but moved to Wilmington in 1971, where they raised their four children; Dennis, Donna, Terese and Patricia.
Hugh worked as an auto mechanic for many years. He worked for Anchor Auto Body for several years before going to work for Ralph Kinnear. Hugh was very dedicated to job and became very close with Ralph and his family.
Hugh loved to be outdoors; he enjoyed camping and canoeing. He was interested in anything to do with nature, especially birds and butterflies. Hugh also loved to spend time going for rides with members of his family; often picking up his mother-in-law, whom he had a great admiration and respect for.
Hugh will be remembered for his great personality. He loved to play tricks on his family and friends, often in an unassuming way. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Hugh was the beloved husband of the late Patricia E. (Dion) Dickerson, devoted father of Dennis Dickerson of Wilmington, Donna Kelley and her companion Rick Comeau of Windham, N.H., Terese Shannon & her husband Robert of Dracut and Patricia Morrison of Wilmington, loving “Grampy/Papa” of Lisa Mannion and her husband Dennis, Linda Kelley, Michael Shannon, Robert Shannon, Keryn Shannon, Amanda McHugh, Matthew Dickerson, and Melissa Dickerson, and “Great-Grampy” of Chelsea and Connor Mannion, cherished son of the late Anna (Nadreau) Dickerson, dear brother of Robert Dickerson of New Hampshire and the late Richard Dickerson, brother-in-law of Edward Dion and his wife Joan of Swampscott. Hugh is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as his life-long best friend, Russell Brown and his wife Peggy of NH.
Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Friday, March 4th at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, March 3rd from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m.
