Irene M.Flores (Branco), age 87, a long-time resident of Wilmington, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on October 24, 2017.
Irene was born on June 4, 1930, in Cambridge, MA; she was the dear daughter of the late Jesse and Maria Branco. Irene was raised and educated in Cambridge and a graduate of Cambridge High School.
Irene married the “love of her life” Gabriel Flores on September 5, 1948; the couple lived in Cambridge for several years before moving to Wilmington more than 58 years ago. Irene and Gabriel raised four wonderful children; Bob, Barbara, Gene, and Nancy. She was a very devoted and loving mother and a wonderful homemaker. Irene was an amazing cook and loved to clean; her home was immaculate inside and out. She took pride in her yard and was an expert gardener who loved her flowers.
Irene made holidays special for her family; she really enjoyed getting ready for Christmas but Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday. Irene made the holidays such memorable times for her family.
Irene will be fondly remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; she cherished her time spent with her family and she always showered them with unconditional love and support. Irene beamed with pride as she spoke of her grandchildren; there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them.
Irene was a beautiful lady inside and out; she was always willing to do for others and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Irene was the beloved wife of Gabriel R. Flores, devoted mother of Robert Flores & wife Judy of Haverhill, Barbara Ciaramella & husband Peter of Tewksbury, Gene Flores & wife Christine and Nancy Turner & husband David all of Wilmington. Loving Grandmother of Becki & Jon O’Sullivan, Scott & Sarah Flores, Nick & Brittany Ciaramella, Stefanie & Gary Haywood, Michael & Tyler Flores, Jesse Turner & girlfriend Kelly, Dylan Turner & girlfriend Harley and Great-Grandchildren Maeve & Finn O’Sullivan, Scotty & Kinley Flores and Hunter Haywood. Cherished daughter of the late Jesse and Maria (Mello) Branco, dear sister of the late Manuel Branco, Jesse Branco, Alice Walker and Maria Maucere. Irene was the special aunt of Donna, Don, Janet and Toni as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family & friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Saturday, October 28th followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, October 27th from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
Memorial donations in Irene’s memory may be made to VNA of Middlesex East, 607 North Avenue, Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 is a testament to the love that Aunt Irene embodied. In the end, her heart gave out because she gave so much to those she loved. Now she works in heaven. She will always be remembered because Love Never Fails.
