Janet (Colucci) O’Connor

August 5th, 2019

Janet (Colucci) O’Connor, age 86, a life-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2019.

Janet was born on October 4, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Steven and Evelyn (Ardito) Colucci. She grew up in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High.

She was the beloved wife of Alfred T. O’Connor, with whom she celebrated 63 years of marriage. She met Alfred while working in Boston. They married a few years later and built a house next to her sister and father in Wilmington. A few years later, their family was complete when their son, Thomas, was born.

Janet was a stay-at-home Mom and took great pride in caring for her family and home. She loved spending time with her family and was a great mother to Tom. The three of them took many family trips together in New England and spent many weekends with her sister’s family at Pawtuckaway Lake. She and her sister saw each other daily, often times going on shopping trips to the mall or garden centers. Most afternoons they enjoyed tea and cookies together.

Janet loved spending time with her grandchildren, Alyssa and Camron. She never missed a dance recital or a hockey game that they were in. She was their number one fan.

She was an avid knitter, and created many lovely sweaters, and personalized Christmas stockings for herself and family members. Janet loved to read and do cross stitch.

Janet was a lovely lady. She touched many people with her kindness and wit. This is evidenced by her many lifelong friends in Wilmington. She loved to go out to lunch with her lady friends and never missed a high school reunion.

She leaves behind her husband, Alfred T. O’Connor, her daughter-in-law, Michelle, and her grandchildren, Alyssa and Camron of Marshfield, her niece, Diane Clifton and her husband James of Wilmington, and her nephew, David Salera and his wife Lori of Nottingham, NH. Janet is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is predeceased by her son, Thomas O’Connor, and her sister Virginia (Colucci) Salera.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Saturday, August 10th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Avenue, Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, August 9th from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Donations in Janet’s memory may be made to the Wilmington Community Fund, PO Box 147, Wilmington, MA 01887.

  1. Sal and Leslie Spatola says:

Janet was a wonderful neighbor for many years and became an aunt to my children, Craig and Candice. She was a proud and honest person and full of personality that most conversations would usually end up with her giggly laugh. She was a lovely lady and will be missed by all that knew her. Let us remember her smile and laughter through this difficult time. Our sympathies and prayers are with Alfred and their entire family.
Our love to you all, Leslie & Sal Spatola, Middletown, CT
