Jayne L. Kapala

January 7th, 2019

Jayne L. Kapala (McKinnon) of Tewksbury, MA passed away peacefully at her home after a long illness, on Saturday, January 5, 2019.

Born on September 20, 1945 in Belfast, Maine, Jayne was the daughter of the late Daniel and Alice (Malcolm) McKinnon.

Jayne was raised and educated in Maine, graduating from Crosby High School in 1964, where she excelled as a stenographer and typist. Jayne spent her teen years working at the Belfast Colonial theatre where she developed a life-long love of movies.

After high school, Jayne moved to Lowell, Massachusetts where she met her soon-to-be husband (the late) Frank Kapala. Jayne and Frank spent many nights tooling around the city in Franks’ midnight blue Impala. Jayne and Frank were married in June of 1965, moving first to Woburn and eventually making Tewksbury their permanent home where Jayne resided for 48 years raising her family of five children.

Jayne was a master wordsmith who loved crossword puzzles and word games, frequently entering mail-in contests she would routinely win. She was quick-witted with a smart pun or funny twist of words. Jayne was a creative soul who wrote poetry and dabbled in painting with acrylics for a time. She was an avid fan of rock music – Pink Floyd and David Bowie were her favorites and she enjoyed going to rock concerts.

Jayne entered the full-time workforce in 1975 starting out as an administrative assistant. Her strong work ethic, intellect and ambition enabled Jayne to advance her career dramatically over the coming years. With the computer industry boom in the northeast, Jayne moved into software quality assurance working as a Sr. Software QA Engineer at Hewlett Packard for the final 18 years of her professional career.

In her later years, Jayne enjoyed spending her time with her family, reading books, watching movies and her all-time favorite tv game shows – Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

Jayne is survived by her children; Lisa of Tewksbury, Carol & husband Steve DeSisto of Littleton, David of Lowell, Kathy of Billerica and Diana Foster of Tewksbury, her grandchildren; Courtney, Sophia, Tony, Nicholas, Olivia & Sabrina. Jayne is sister to Mary Guilbeault of Dracut, Irene Miles of Fitchburg and the late Daniel McKinnon of Maine, Myron McKinnon of California & Charles McKinnon of Ohio.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Friday, January 11th for Visitation from 4:00-7:30 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jayne’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
