Joan F. Welch

Joan F. (DeFiore) Welch, 70, of Wilmington, died Saturday, June 30, at home surrounded by her family.

Joan was born August 25, 1936, in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Patrick & Phyllis (Pipitone) DeFiore. Joan grew up in Charlestown and graduated from Charlestown High School, her family then moved to Medford where Joan could recall many fond memories of living there. She moved to Wilmington in 1963, where she resided until her death. Prior to retirement, Joan was a bookkeeper at Dynamics Research Company in Andover for more than 20 years. Joan will be remembered for her love of life, a quick sense of humor, her devotion to her family, a welcoming person who could never turn others away, her pride in her Italian heritage, her artistic ability whether it was painting, crocheting, or cross stitching, and her love of baking.

She was the devoted mother of Edward T. Welch, Jr. & his wife Margaret M. Winnett-Welch of Haverhill, Michael J. Welch & his wife Patricia of Wilmington, Joan P. Welch of Waltham, and Nanci M. Welch of Wilmington, dear sister of Patricia Waggett of Concord, Frances DeFiore of Malden, and the late Barbara Power, loving grandmother of 10 grandchildren, Joan is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great nephews.

Her funeral will be held from the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Thursday, July 5, at 9:00 followed by an Funeral Mass at St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St., Wilmington, at 10:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery. Visiting hours on Tuesday, July 3, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.
