  3. Christy Tarantino Patalano says:

Today, I would like to reflect on someone who is very special to me and my family. My memories of Joannie all began as a child camping at Wymans Beach Campground in Westford, MA. Every year my family and I would spend summers camping. Joannie was my neighbor growing up, she was a beautiful person inside and out. My sisters and I would call her Joannie, however she was really Nana in our hearts. Nana to 15 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren who where the highlight of her life. Family was everything to Joannie and she would go above and beyond for all of her children during the ups and downs in life. Not only was she a wonderful mother and grandmother, she was a wonderful wife to the late Robert Matthews (we called him Bud). Bud passed on years ago however, she would always share stories of the love that she had for him.
Adventures with Joannie that I will always treasure are dragging her to the beach, having clambakes with lobsters and steamers. Roasting marshmallows by the campfire with a smorgasbord of spreadable wine cheese and crackers with pepperoni. Watching her and my mom play endless hands of Shakey in the screen house. BINGO on Saturday nights with all her good luck charms, she would always win! Trips to Foxwoods with the senior citizens of Wilmington, hitting the slots. Our annual girls trip up to Mount Snow, VT. Driving up to Ben and Jerry’s and Cabot’s to check out the factory. Shopping at the outlets in North Conway and have her wander off by herself to get her ears pierced in her early 70’s. Having her paged at Market Basket, Walmart or any other department store because she would have to check out every item for sale in the store and was no where to be found. These are just some of our special times together.
Joannie you will always hold a special place in my heart. On behalf of the entire Tarantino family we love you and you will never be forgotten.
