John J. Raffa

September 15th, 2021

John J. Raffa, age 84, of Gloucester, MA, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2021, with his family at his side. John had surgery in May, he fought hard but passed following his battle with cancer and respiratory issues.

John was the beloved husband of the late Margaret “Peggy” (Blauvelt) Raffa, devoted father of David Raffa and his long-time partner Rosanne Dillon, the late John Raffa and the late Linda Randazza and her husband Thomas Randazza. Loving Grandfather of Katie Toto, Jillian Fitzpatrick, Joseph Raffa, the late Austin Raffa, Carter Randazza, Nathan Randazza, Bryanna Payne, Kendra Payne as well as his 8 Great-grandchildren. John was the dear son of the late Samuel and Gertrude (Ehmons) Raffa, brother of Joseph Raffa and the late Charlie Raffa. John is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

John was a hard worker, he was a truck driver for the Mayflower Moving Company and retired following 30 years as a dedicated employee.

John was an independent man, a gentle giant that secretly had a heart of gold. John would often be seen around his new hometown of Gloucester with his friend JB Amero; he would be driving him to his appointments, taking him on errands, or just out and about saying hi to the town people on the Boulevard. He had his daily routine of getting the morning paper and scratchers and walking down to the waterfront to “take in the scenery”, he especially liked doing this in the summer months!

John was an avid Red Sox fan, who, like many of his generation, was thrilled to see them win multiple World Series in his lifetime.

John was quite a flirt; he was always one to blow kisses to all his nurses but forever missed the love of his life, Peggy till the end.

John loved his family and friends with all his heart and he will forever be missed.

A Celebration of John’s life will take place on Sunday, September 19th from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at the Knights Of Columbus Hall, 126 Middlesex Ave. (Directly behind St. Thomas Church), Wilmington, MA.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Nichols Funeral Home, Wilmington, MA.
