Joseph P. Costello Sr.

September 29th, 2019

Joseph P. Costello Sr., “Joe”, age 57, a life-long resident of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly on September 26, 2019.

Joe was born on November 23, 1961; he was the dear son of Mary and the late Edward “Costy” Costello. Joe was raised in a large and loving family in the “Silver Lake” area of Wilmington; he just loved “his lake”. He attended Wilmington public school and was a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1980. Joe was known to be a good athlete who loved football; he played Wilmington Pop Warner for many years as well as high school football for the Wilmington Wildcats.

Joe married his “high school sweetheart” Tracey Stewart on April 17, 1983; the couple eventually bought the family homestead at Silver Lake where they raised three wonderful children, Joe Jr., Allyson and Matt. Joe was the “best dad” according to his children and he adored his grandchildren Conor and Abigail; he just loved hanging out with his “little buddy” Conor. Joe was always there to support his family with unconditional love and devotion, he attended countless school and sporting events; whatever his kids were doing he was there to cheer them on and was always so proud of them.

Joe looked forward to being with his family and friends; they enjoyed going camping, trips to York Beach in Maine, traveling, and of course getting together for the “Sunday Football Games” where he would cheer on his beloved Dallas Cowboys.

Joe worked hard to provide for his family; he worked in the construction industry for Triton Construction for many years and he was employed as a custodian for the Town of Wilmington for the last several years. Joe was very easy to get along with and eager to do his job; he made many friends with his co-workers throughout the years.

Joe will be fondly remembered as a “good guy” who loved life; he had an infectious smile that would light a room. He was easy going, friendly and would do anything for anyone. He was a wonderful husband, dad, bampy, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to many. Joe loved his family and friends with all his heart and he will be forever be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Joe was the beloved husband of Tracey (Stewart) Costello, devoted father of Joseph P. Costello Jr. & his fiancé Danielle Spilotros of Oxford, Allyson Hanlon & her husband Richard of Billerica and Matthew Costello & his girlfriend Meg Ferguson of Wilmington. Loving “Bampy” of Conor and Abigail Hanlon. Cherished son of Mary (Lee) and the late Edward “Costy” Costello of Wilmington, dear brother of Betsy Redmond, Cheryl Dacko & husband Paul, Edward “Butch” Costello & wife Andrea, Michael Costello & wife Kathy, Tricia Welch& husband Michael, Sean Costello & wife Cathleen all of Wilmington and Kathleen Gillis & husband Kevin of P.E.I., Canada. Nephew of Pat O’Brien of Wilmington, Son-in-law of George Stewart of Wilmington, brother-in-law of Michelle& Dave Hayley of Tewksbury, Joanne Lucas, Elizabeth & Dave Sullivan and Kathleen & Kenny Carroll all of Wilmington. Joe is also survived by his life-long best friend Dave Driscoll and the Driscoll family as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
