Evelyn W. (Evans) Joyce, age 76, of Wilmington, died peacefully at home with her family at her side on Sunday, June 5, 2011.

Evelyn was born in Lebanon, New Hampshire on July 12, 1934, she was the cherished daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Carter) Evans, she grew up in Lynnfield, MA, and attended Lynnfield Schools.

Evelyn married the love of her life Thomas Joyce and they moved to Wilmington in 1952, where they raised their family. Evelyn and Tom had a wonderful life together, sharing over 40 years of marriage before his passing in 2003.

Prior to retiring, Evelyn worked at Pine Ridge Cleaners in North Wilmington for many years and was a manager for the Salvation Army Stores in Wilmington and Salem, NH.

Evelyn’s passion was her family and friends, she was a devoted mother and grandmother, “she was the best” according to her family. Evelyn was very involved in her family activities especially Boy Scouts, she was a den mother for many years with her own sons and was very proud to be currently involved in the Scouts with her grandson Alex.

Evelyn was also a very talented at crocheting and crafts, she was constantly making gifts for her family and friends, they will treasure the many Afghans, baby blankets, and dolls, that she made with love.

Evelyn was a true example of a wonderful woman, she lived her life with an open heart and would do anything for anyone, she was very kind to not only the people she loved but also to a stranger in need, she will be greatly missed.

Evelyn was the beloved wife of Thomas Joyce, devoted mother of Terri Nagle of Winthrop, John Joyce and his wife Nevada of Florida, and the late Stephen Joyce, loving grandmother of Robert Plunkett and his wife Cathee, Angel Plunkett, Connor Joyce, McKenzie Joyce, and great-grandchildren Shane, Alex, Kimberly, Katrina, and the late Jocelyn. Dear sister of Carol Peters of Wilmington, Alita Grace of Meriden, NH, and the late William Evans, Evelyn is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington on Wednesday, June 8th from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., immediately following visiting hours there will be a Graveside Service at the family lot in Wildwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations in Evelyn’s name may be made to the M.S.P.C.A. , c/o Development Office, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130.
