Joyce F. (Sokolowski) Duffy

Joyce F. (Sokolowski) Duffy, age 74, of Stoughton, formerly of Wilmington, died peacefully surrounded by her family on July 29, 2014, at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.

Joyce was born in Chelsea, MA, on April 2, 1940; she was the cherished daughter of the late Stanley “Ziggy” and Julia (Sokol) Sokolowski. Joyce was raised in Chelsea and was a graduate of Chelsea High School.

Joyce worked for many years as a customer service agent for Arnold Freedman Insurance Company in Randolph and Bob Cain Insurance Company in Wilmington. Joyce was very dedicated to her job and with her personality; she was able to make many friends in the insurance industry.

Joyce loved flowers and spent a lot of time out in her yard creating beautiful gardens. Joyce was known to be very crafty and artistic; she could take something simple and make it beautiful. Joyce also enjoyed her outings to the beach, shopping expeditions; everyone knew she loved her bargains, and going out to lunch or dinner with her family and friends. Holidays were very special at Joyce’s house, she went all out to decorate for each and every holiday, she loved getting her family together for these special occasions.

Joyce’s family was very important to her; they were the light of her life. Joyce was the devoted mother of four wonderful children; Cheryl, Cynthia, Valerie and Daniel, and the adoring “Nonnie” of Taylor, Brendan, Amanda, and Nicole, she especially cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.

Joyce will be remembered as a loving mother, Nonnie, daughter, sister and friend. Joyce had great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Joyce had a warm and loving heart and she will be missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Joyce was the beloved mother of Cheryl (Duffy) Robinson of Stoughton, Cynthia (Duffy) Litwinsky and her husband Jim of Brooksville, FL, Valerie Duffy, and Daniel Duffy both of Stoughton, loving “Nonnie” of Taylor, Brendan, and Amanda Litwinsky and Nicole Duffy, dear sister of Stanley Sokolowski of Wilmington and Cynthia DePatto of Revere. Joyce is also survived by Kim Duffy, her many nieces, nephews, and friends who were all very special to her.

Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Saturday, August 2nd from 10:00 -11:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 12:00 noon. Donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
