Kenneth D. De Young

January 1st, 2015

Kenneth Daniel De Young, age 48, of Dorchester, formerly of Wilmington, left this world peacefully on December 31, 2014, surrounded by his loving family following a defiant fearless battle with sinus cancer. Within the hour he announced his joyous arrival into the next in typical Ken fashion by lighting up the Boston skyline with fireworks. Right next to the Corita natural gas tank strung with the lights Ken had placed. Just like Ken… Go big, or go home!

Kenneth was born in Dorchester, MA, on January 19, 1966; he was the cherished son of Robert and Eleanor De Young. As a young boy, he collected friends along the way with antics of fun and more than enough mischief. Wilmington, where he was raised and educated had a large part of his life story. He graduated WHS in 1985 and was a Wildcat football captain.

Kenny was completely devoted to his family. Especially his grandmother, Ellie Albanese. He moved back to Dorchester, to take care of her, where she cooked “her son” dinner every night! He was an avid golfer, and a very talented cook. Kenny favorite place to be was at his family homestead on Foxley River, Prince Edward Island. His enormous gregarious family all adored him.

Kenny was a proud 25 year Union Electrician for IBEW Local #103 in Boston.

Kenny married the “love of his life and his true companion” Kristin Batts on June 30, 2006; Kenny and Kristin were a perfect match. Kenny really had two birthdays: the day he was born and the day he met the love of his life, Kristin. Kenny adored his Kristin, and Kristin adored her Kenny. It was a true love story. Made even more perfect by the addition of their Shih-tzu puppy, Ellie. Of coursed named after Nana, to her great delight!

Kenny will be continuously remembered for his unselfishness and generosity; he always gave. Whether it be a constant laugh, money, time, or a bit of mischief, Kenny freely gave. Kenny’s compassion and kindness towards others was unwavering, as was his humble nature. Everyone loved to be around Kenny. Kenny will be remembered as a fighter who never gave up in times of adversity, he never once complained, and always worried more about others than himself. Throughout his treatment, he wore a bracelet “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Phil. 4-13. Kenny lived by example and was someone who was truly admired and will be greatly missed by all.

Kenneth was the beloved husband of Kristin (Batts) De Young, cherished son of Eleanor (Conley) and the late Robert De Young of Wilmington, dear brother of Kellie Donlon & her husband John of Hathorne, MA, Jill Medeiros & her husband Aaron of Hudson, NH and Stacy De Young of Wilmington, Grandson of the late Eleanor Albanese, loving uncle of Samantha, Michaela, Matthew, Alexandra, Oliver, Geddes, Pierce, Avalon, Robert, and Ronan, son-in-law of Richard and Barbara Batts of Marshfield, brother-in-law of Carolyn & Mike Devine of Marshfield, Richard & Kara Batts of CT, nephew of Jeanne & David Bolduc of Mattapan. Kenneth is also survived by his constant companion his dog Ellie as well as many dear friends.

Kenny’s beautiful services were held at Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA. His Funeral Mass was held at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Interment was at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers donations in Kenneth’s memory may be made to Make A Wish Foundation, 1 Bulfinch Place 201, Boston, MA 02114.
