Kenneth R. Soderholm, Sr.

November 4th, 2014

Kenneth R. Soderholm, Sr., age 84, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home on November 2, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Woburn on August 11, 1930, Ken was the son of Robert and Margaret (Norwood) Soderholm. He was raised in Woburn and was a graduate of Woburn High School, class of 1948.

Ken worked hard to support his family. He owned his own construction company. After many years of working alone, he joined his son, Ken, at the Soderholm Custom Builders, and together they built homes throughout Massachusetts.

Ken was a life-long motorcycle enthusiast. He began riding at 16 years old and never looked back. He would ride all over Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Even after having a serious surgery, Ken got right back on the bike and rode. Ken was also a huge sports fan. He loved Boston sports teams, especially Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins.

Ken was proud of his membership in many organizations. He was a Mason, a member of the Rainbo Fish and Game in New Hampshire and a Shriner. Ken traveled with his wife, Ruthann and the Shriners. His favorite stops were to Hawaii, Florida, Toronto and especially Vancouver. His proudest membership however, would be his Eagle Scout Membership, an honor he cherished. This was so important to him that four of his grandsons followed in his footsteps, earning their Eagle Scout, Ken being in attendance for all of their ceremonies.

Family was paramount to Ken, he considered everyone family. Whether you were blood related or an in-law, you were treated as family. Ken would travel to wherever he needed to be to attend weddings, graduations, ceremonies, sporting events or anything else that the children or grandchildren wanted him to attend.

Ken is survived by his beloved wife Ruthann (Spaulding) Soderholm of Wilmington, his children; Ken Soderholm, Jr., Linda Picard, Robert Soderholm, Wayne Soderholm, Sharon Burzyk, Cindy Drover, Laurie Taronto & Melody Conner, AnneMarie Webber, Denise DeLucia and Michael, Anthony, Christopher & Richard DeLucia. He was the grandfather of 41 and great grandfather of 27. He was the dear brother of Marjorie Millea. Ken is also survived by many friends including the Lemelin family of Tewksbury.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave, (Rt. 62), Wilmington for visiting hours on Saturday, November 8th, from 1-3 p.m., immediately followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m.

Memorial donations in Ken’s name can be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, c/o Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, Compassionate Care Hospice, 800 West Cummings Park, Suite 3100, Woburn, MA 01801 or the Lupus Foundation of America, 2000 L Street, N.W., Suite 410, Washington, DC 20036.
