Lawrence “Larry” Galbo

Lawrence “Larry” Galbo, age 93, a resident of Wilmington for over 30 years, died Sunday, June 3, 2012, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington.

Larry was born on February 7, 1919, in Weymouth, MA, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Grace (Dellaria) Galbo.

Larry was raised and educated in East Boston, MA; he enlisted in the United States Navy on  May 25, 1944, at the age of 25.  Larry served all over the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and was awarded several commendations and medals for his brave service.  He was honorably discharged in January of 1946 and returned home to his family.

Prior to retiring, Larry was employed at  H. P. Hood & Sons in Charlestown for many years, first as a deliveryman and worked his way up over the years  to Management.  Larry was a dedicated employee, very conscientious, and had a great work ethic.

In his spare time, Larry loved to garden and had a great talent for building bird houses.

Family was very important to Larry, he was married to his beloved Evelyn for over 66 years before her passing on June 2, 2006, he was a devoted father and a loving “Gramps” who was especially close to his grandson Jim.  He will be greatly missed.

Larry was the beloved husband of the late Evelyn M. (Twitchell) Galbo, dear father of Shirley A. Klodner and her husband Robert of Wilmington and the late Lawrence M. Galbo and his wife Judith, loving “Gramps” of Jim Colarusso of Wilmington, as well as five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Family and friends gathered for a Funeral Service in the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Tuesday, June 5th at 11 a.m.  Interment with Military Honors took place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Memorial donations in Lawrence’s name may be made to Local Heroes, Inc., P. O. Box 536, Wilmington, MA 01887.
