Arthur J. Lloyd, Sr., age 89, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at the E. N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford.

Born in the Pinehurst, MA on March 9, 1921, Arthur was the dear son of the late Frank and Margaret (Wackrow) Lloyd. Arthur grew up in the Pinehurst section of Billerica and attended Billerica High School.

He joined the Civil Conservation Commission, serving for over four years and was part of building many bridges along the Mohawk Trail. Arthur was inducted into the United States Army during WWII on June 4, 1942. He was a member of the 254th Infantry Regiment Anti Tank Company and drove tanks all over Central Europe from 1942 until 1945. Arthur was honorably discharged on October 29, 1945 after proudly serving his country.

He returned to Billerica and married Evelyn Blanche Anderson on September 3, 1946, they celebrated almost 55 years of marriage before her passing in June of 2001. The couple lived in Billerica for a short time until they made their home in Wilmington in 1947.

Prior to retiring, Arthur was an Offset Pressman for Sweetheart Plastics Company in Wilmington for many years.

In his leisure time, Arthur enjoyed tracing, painting, woodcarving, and deep sea fishing. He loved to camp with his family and friends and enjoyed his many travels to Hawaii, Canada, Florida, Maine, and visiting the Grand Ole Opry in Tennessee.

He will be fondly remembered as a hard worker, devoted family man, and a good friend.

Arthur was the beloved husband of the late Evelyn Blanche (Anderson), devoted father of Arthur J. Lloyd, Jr. & his wife Charlotte of Vancouver, WA, Walter G. Lloyd & his wife Donna of Dedham, MA, and Carolyn Cuddy of Manchester, NH, loving grandfather of Lisa Whitney Waite, Laurie Tobine, Nicole Lloyd, Jayna Lloyd, Christopher Lloyd, Amber Lloyd, and great-grandchildren Brendan, Zachary, Emerson, Maggie, Myra, Noah, Kaleb, Kimberly, and Ethyn, dear brother of the late George Lloyd, Margaret Lawson, Martha Woodside, Florence Riley, and Sabrina Breen, Arthur is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family & friends will gather for a Funeral Service at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Saturday, June 5th at 2:00 p.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday, June 4th from 4-8 p.m.
