Lorraine & John Quinn

Lorraine E. (Clark) Quinn, age 82, November 28, 2011 and her husband John L. Quinn, Sr., age 86, November 30, 2011, both of Wilmington, died peacefully surrounded by their family.

Lorraine was born in Boston, MA on October 20, 1929, she was the cherished daughter of the late Harold and Marjorie (Aulenbach) Clark. Lorraine was raised and educated in Woburn, MA and was a graduate of Woburn High School.

John was born May 11, 1925, in Wakefield, where he was raised and educated, he was a graduate of Wakefield High School. John was the dear son of the late John and Josephine (McIntosh) Quinn.

John was drafted into the United States Army in July of 1943 where he received training as a Sharpshooter. John served all over Central Europe, he was instrumental in capturing enemy positions by ground attack and was very experienced in the use of all hand weapons and communications. John was a proud member of Company G 393rd Infantry Regiment and was very decorated for his war efforts, he received the Purple Heart, Silver Star, Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, and Sharpshooter Rifle Expert Combat Infantry Badge. John was honorably discharged on November 11, 1945.

Following his return from the Army, John took a job at Barry Controls Company where he worked his way up to Manufacturing Manager. John was known to be a “workaholic”, he retired following 36 years as a dedicated and faithful employee.

John and Lorraine were married in 1950, celebrating over 61 years together and making memories to last for generations to come. They lived in Woburn for several years before moving to Wilmington in 1959, where they raised their children. Family was most important to John and Lorraine, they enjoyed family celebrations, holidays, and vacations, cherishing every moment spent with their children and grandchildren, they were very proud of their families accomplishments and never wanted to miss anything.

As a couple, John and Lorraine enjoyed many things together, they loved all kinds of music, especially Country Music, and they loved to dance. John and Lorraine became avid Square Dancers and were members of the Skirts and Flirts Square Dancing Club in Wilmington. They also liked to go on trips with the Wilmington Recreation Department, especially the trips to Foxwoods.

While John enjoyed working in the yard and golfing in his younger years, Lorraine loved to go to the beach and the mountains.

John will be remembered for his quiet demeanor, he was gentle and reserved.

Lorraine was feisty and fearless and enjoyed being with people. Lorraine never let her illness get the best of her, nothing was going to stop her from making the most out of life.

John and Lorraine will both be remembered for their devotion to their family and friends, they were wonderful and kind people who will be greatly missed.

Lorraine and John were the beloved parents of Kathleen Powers and her husband Peter of Winchester, Maureen Quinn of Lowell, John L. “Jay” Quinn, Jr. of Wilmington, Barbara Savell and her husband Mark of Hudson, Timothy Quinn and his wife Kerri of West Roxbury, and Jeffrey Quinn and his wife Carroll of Tewksbury, loving grandparents of Michaela and Kyle Savell, Jack and Josie Quinn, Megan and Timothy Quinn. Lorraine was the dear sister of Robert Clark and his wife Gail of Naples, FL, Judith Vollmar and her husband Peter of Reading, and the late Harold Clark. John was the dear brother of Helen Fuller of Danvers, Dorothy Morris and her husband James of Reading, Brenda Cleary of Wakefield, and the late Mary Burke, Richard Quinn, and Kathleen Sheedy. Lorraine and John are also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Monday, December 5th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main Street (Route 38), Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, December 4th from 2-6 p.m. A Private Interment will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA at a later date. Memorial donations in Lorraine’s memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 85 Astor Ave., Suite 2, Norwood, MA 02062 or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Memorial donations in John’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
