Louise Russo

November 19th, 2018

Louise Russo (Nardo), age 87, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Louise was born and raised in Lawrence, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine Nardo. Louise attended Lawrence Public Schools and was a graduate of Lawrence High School. Louise went on to continue her education by earning her certificate as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the Tewksbury State Hospital Nursing program and graduated with her degree as a Registered Nurse from Northern Essex College.

Louise started a long and rewarding career in the nursing field; she was employed at the Tewksbury State Hospital for over 30 years; through hard work she worked her way up to the Charge Nurse for her unit. Louise thought of her job as “a calling”; she was very knowledgeable in her field and was an excellent caregiver to her patients as well as their families. Louise treated everyone with kindness, compassion, respect and most of all love; her patients and their families became her “extended family”. She received several commendations for her excellent care towards others; to this day she still receives countless cards and notes from former co-workers, patients and their families still letting her know how much she was respected, appreciated and loved. Louise was also known to continue her nursing outside of work; she helped many relatives, friends and neighbors that were in need of care throughout her life.

On April 2, 1950, Louise married the “love of her life” John Russo; the couple lived in Tewksbury for several years before moving to Wilmington where they resided for over 50 years. Louise and John had a wonderful life together; they raised three beautiful children and enjoyed being grandparents to six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Louise showered her family with unconditional love and support; she cherished the time they spent together and the many holidays and special occasions they shared throughout the years. Louise was an amazing cook who looked forward to making her families “favorite dishes” and having them around her dinner table. Louise also enjoyed traveling with her husband, family and friends; everyone always had a great time when they were with Louise.

Louise loved music of all kinds but she especially loved listening to classical and opera pieces. She had a beautiful voice, she loved to sing and play the piano and violin.

She was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church; she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and loved her retreats to Star Island in the Isle of Shoals.

Louise was the beloved wife of 68 years to John Russo, devoted mother of Linda Aspeslagh of Amesbury & her partner Tim Regan, Leslie Champoux & her late husband Bart of Belchertown and Michael Russo & wife Peggy of North Chelmsford. Loving “Nana” of Kenneth & Rachel Aspeslagh, Glen & Sothy Aspeslagh, Kristen Champoux, Michael Russo, Kerry & Ron Yost, Wendy & Larry Johnson and Great-Grandchildren Tabitha, Sonja, Nicholas, Sam, Heidi, Liana, Natalia, Lillian, Madden, Morgan, Ayla and Avery. Cherished daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine (Lomastro) Nardo, dear sister of Rose Turton of Woburn, the late James Nardo and Mary Tarallo.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 38), Wilmington, on Tuesday, November 27th for visitation from 10:30-11:30 a.m. immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m.

Memorial donations in Louise’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452.
