Lucille C. Smalley

December 1st, 2021

Lucille C. Smalley (Morse), age 84, a life-long resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2021.

Lucille was born in Lowell, MA, on December 14, 1936; she was the cherished daughter of the late Elliott and Mary (Cosgrove) Morse. Lucille was raised and educated in Wilmington and attended Wilmington Public Schools where she made many life-long friends.

On January 12, 1960, Lucille married the “love of her life” Paul Smalley; the couple spent many wonderful times together with family and friends throughout the years. Lucille and Paul settled down at the “family homestead” on Auburn Ave. where they raised two wonderful children Paul Jr. and Elizabeth. Lucille was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many but her most favorite role was “Nana” to Elizabeth “Fran” and David whom she adored.

Throughout the years, Lucille and Paul enjoyed camping with their family, as well as her sisters, brother, brother-in-law and their families; so much fun was had by all. They also looked forward to their trips to Vegas with John and Jeri or to Florida and Disney World with her sisters; everyone always had a great time no matter where they were or what they were doing.

Lucille will be fondly remembered for her sweet personality and her beautiful smile; she went out of her way to help her family and friends no matter what they needed and looked forward to the time they spent together. Lucille had a heart of gold and she will forever be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Lucille was the beloved wife of 61 years to the late Paul D. Smalley, devoted mother of Paul D. Smalley, Jr. of Florida, formerly of Wilmington and Elizabeth Mullett and her husband Steven of Wilmington, loving “Nana” of Elizabeth “Fran” Mullett and David Mullett both of Wilmington. Dear sister of the late James “Joe” Morse, Sr., Jeri Ralls, Paul “Olie” Olson and Joan McGovern. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Thursday, December 2nd from 9:30-10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA. www.nicholsfuneralhome.com

Mrs Smalley was always so much fun and so caring. I remember one night in particular that my dad was in the hospital and we stayed with her – she made sure I had some games to play and plenty to eat. It was great having her grandkids play with my kids. She and Mr. Smalley were an integral part of the neighborhood and will be sorely missed. My dad will miss his walks with her!
