Mabel A. (Libby) Manning

Mabel Anne (Libby) Manning, age 97, a life-long resident of Wilmington passed away peacefully on March 5, 2019 at CareOne at Concord.

Mabel was born on September 22, 1921 in Somerville, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late Winthrop and Grace (Starbird) Libby. Mabel was raised in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School.

Following graduation, Mabel ventured into Boston, where she worked for Employer’s Liability Insurance Company on Broad Street for several years. Mabel and friends often ventured to New York City for weekend theater excursions.

Mabel married William J. Manning in 1954. The couple bought a house in Wilmington and raised their only child, William, Jr. there. Prior to retirement, she worked in the cafeterias at the High School and Shawsheen School.

Mabel was very active at St. Dorothy’s Church; she taught religious education and eventually ran the CCD program for many years.
Mabel was a loving, funny, and strong, independent woman. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Mabel was the beloved wife of the late William J. Manning, devoted mother of William J. Manning, Jr. and his wife Martha Rounds of Acton, loving “Nana” of David Manning & his wife Molly Fales of Colorado and Timothy Manning of Acton, dear sister of the late Lillian Maines and aunt of Lillian E. Holloway of Bedford.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Saturday, March 9th from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.

Memorial donations in Mabel’s name may be made to Community Teamwork, 155 Merrimack Street, Lowell, MA 01852.
