Margaret M. Magee

November 11th, 2019

Margaret M. Magee (Fay), “Peg”, age 82, of Wilmington, passed away on November 10, 2019, at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Peg was born on March 26, 1937, in Boston, MA; she was the only daughter to the late Cyril and Margaret Fay. Peg was raised in Brookline in her younger years before moving to Newton where she attended school and was a graduate of Newton High School.

in 1954, Peg married the “love of her life” and “best friend” Thomas Magee; the couple moved to Wilmington where they raised their six children. Peg was an extremely devoted wife, mother and later on grandmother; she went out of her way to take care of others. Peg had an “open door” policy at her home where everyone was welcomed and made to feel “at home”. As her children grew up and married, Peg, welcomed her new “in-laws” with open arms and treated them as her own. When the grandchildren started to arrive Peg was overjoyed; they were all very special to her and she loved to spoil them. Peg loved her family with all her heart, she waited on them whenever they came through the door and was known to be the “energizer bunny”; some even called her “Saint Peg”.

In the late 1970’s, Peg and Tom set out on an adventure from Winthrop to the Bahamas to find their little piece of “paradise”. They fell in love with the Bahamas and bought a family home in Hope Town where they enjoyed the sun, deep sea fishing and the beauty of its beaches. Peg and Tom travelled to the Bahamas for more than forty years during the winter months, making that trek aboard their various boats; he as the captain and she was the crew. Peg and Tom also introduced their family to their new found paradise where everyone had a great time and countless memories were made.

In her spare time, Peg enjoyed knitting sweaters for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; these were gifts that will be treasured for years to come. Peg was also very talented when it came to needlepoint and she was an excellent painter.

She will be fondly remembered for her “sweet tooth” and taking her grandchildren for their adventures to Friendly’s for ice cream sundaes. Peg dedicated her life to doing for others; she was known as a loving, giving and kind lady who would do anything to help anyone. Peg loved her family and friends with all her heart and she will forever be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Peg was the beloved wife of 67 years to Thomas Magee, devoted mother of Paul Magee & wife Judy of Princeton, Jeanne Gaudion & husband Bob of Londonderry, NH, Patrick Magee & wife Peggy, Robert Magee & wife Linda and James Magee & wife Jeanne all of Wilmington and the late Thomas Magee. Loving “Nana” of Kylie & David Sundberg, Gaelen Magee, Dorian Magee, Dan & Kendra Roberts, Kara & Nathan Ruiter, Andrew Roberts, Michelle Gaudion, Kerrie & Charlie Haynes, Michael Gaudion, Erin & Mike Loder, Colleen Magee & Kaitlin McCarthy, Patrick & Kristen Magee, Thomas Magee, Carin Magee, Kayla Magee, James Magee and “Nana Peg” to her great-grandchildren Leroy, Rhett, Noel, Deklan, Aria, Lila, Ben, Amelia, Liam and Riley Margaret. Cherished daughter of the late Cyril and Margaret (MacDonald) Fay, dear sister of the late Robert, Frank, Cyril and David Fay. Peg is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Friday, November 15th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
