Marie T. O’Connell

September 16th, 2017

Marie T. O’Connell (Baldwin), age 90, a life-long resident of Wilmington, died peacefully with her family at her side on September 16, 2017, at the Winchester Hospital.

Marie was born on June 12, 1927, in Everett, MA; she was the dear daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude Baldwin. Marie was raised in the “family compound” on Jones Ave. and Faulkner Ave. along with her siblings and a huge extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins; they were a tight knit family. Marie was educated in Wilmington and was a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1946.

Marie married “the love of her life” Leo O’Connell in 1947 and together they raised a large family of their own. Marie and Leo spend over 40 years together and had many wonderful times with their family and friends before his untimely passing in February of 1991.

Marie’s family was always her priority; she was a devoted wife, mother, and “gram” who showered her family with unconditional love and was always there for them no matter what. Marie was a wonderful homemaker and a great cook; she loved to entertain a crowd and looked forward to the many family parties and cookouts. Marie cherished the time she spent with her family and their friends; everyone was always made to feel welcomed at Marie’s home and she always made sure they were fed.

In her spare time, Marie loved to read and do puzzles; she looked forward to her trips to Lake Winnepesaukee and riding the Mount Washington. Marie was a self proclaimed avid Red Sox and Patriots fan who enjoyed watching or taking in a game with her family.

Marie will be fondly remembered as a “people person”; she was kind, caring, and friendly to everyone she met. Marie would go out of her way to help her family, a friend, or a perfect stranger; never expecting anything in return. Marie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marie was the beloved wife of the late Leo P. O’Connell, Jr., devoted mother of Leo P. O’Connell III & wife Lucille of Laconia, NH, Daniel R. O’Connell & wife Carol of Seabrook, NH, David D. My heart goes out to the entire O’Connell family. Gram was truly one of a kind. She was never afraid to tell you what was on her mind…lol. From the moment my Mother married Leo…she welcomed her, her kids and our kids into her family. We always felt at home at her house. I will always remember the Christmas parties and bbq’s and her amazing chicken salad sandwiches (which she always made me wait half the day for….but so worth it!). I will always be grateful to have known her. May you rest in peace, Gram. You have so earned it. xoxo
