Mary E. (Gibson) McNamara

Mary E. (Gibson) McNamara, age 79, of Methuen, formerly a long-time Wilmington resident, passed away on June 1, 2013, at her home.  Born in Somerville on February 2, 1934, Mary was one of the nine children of John and Marie Gibson.

Mary married the love of her life, Thomas McNamara, and the couple moved to Wilmington to raise a family of their own.  Mary and Tom were the proud parents of eight children, grandparents of seventeen and great grandparents of two.

Mary was a co-owner of two local businesses in Wilmington, The Wilmington Telephone Answering Service and Mac and Duff’s Sport Shop. Mary was an avid golfer and a member of the Thompson Country Club in North Reading before retiring to The Villages in Florida.  During her retirement she continued to play golf and was well known for organizing Michigan Rummy and Bonco nights.

Mary was the beloved wife of the late Thomas McNamara.  Mary was the loving mother of Thomas McNamara and his wife Kathleen of Westford, David McNamara and his wife Catherine of Wilmington, Brian McNamara and his wife Mary Beth of Wrentham, Chris McNamara and his wife Deborah of Chester, NH, Keith McNamara and his wife Lisa of Hawaii, Alice Armstrong and her husband Robert of Methuen, Sean McNamara and his wife Amy of Methuen and Susan Leber and her husband Steven of Methuen.  She was the cherished “Nana” of Catherine and Jonathan McNamara, Kelly Trimarchi, Jennifer Gillis, Steven and Eric McNamara, Timothy McNamara, Meghan, Patrick and Katelyn McNamara, Amanda, Rebecca and Dale Armstrong, Delaney, Colleen and Erin McNamara and Matthew Leber.  She was the “Great Nana” of Michael Trimarchi and Shane Gillis.  Mary was the beloved daughter of the late John and Marie (Hastings) Gibson.  Mary is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rt. 62), Wilmington, for a funeral on Friday, June 7, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at St. Thomas Church, 126 Middlesex Ave. Wilmington, at 10:00 a.m.  Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 6, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
