Mary was raised and educated in Wakefield and a graduate of Wakefield High School. At the age of 21, she moved with her family to Wilmington; settling on Hopkins Street. Mary made many new friends in Wilmington and through them she met her “sweetheart” Joseph Woods. Mary and Joe soon became inseparable; they married in 1946 and together they raised a wonderful family of six children.

Mary and Joe, along with their family had many great times together throughout the years. Mary loved to entertain and host family gathering; Mary was known to be a great cook and hostess for their large family and extended family; all were welcomed.

Mary worked as a clerk at North Wilmington Pharmacy for many years; she was very knowledgeable, as well as personable and pleasant with the customers which made her quite an asset to Mr. Sandler throughout the years. Mary was very active in her community as well; she was a precinct warden for the Wilmington Town Elections, a very active member of the Wilmington Women’s Club, and she was an active communicant of St. Thomas of Villanova Church for many years.

Mary enjoyed horseback riding as a young girl, she loved to swim and go to the beach. Mary looked forward to the family trips to Plum Island where everyone was together and they all had a great time. Mary was an avid gardener; she just loved flowers of all kinds.

Mary will be fondly remembered as very pleasant and friendly; she was extremely active and always doing something for someone. Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and a terrific aunt who looked forward to spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Mary loved her family with all her heart and she will forever be missed.

Mary was the beloved wife of the late Joseph H. Woods, devoted mother of Joseph Woods & wife Darlene of Lawrence, Elizabeth “Betty Anne” Woods of Andover, Thomas Woods & wife Terri of Wilmington, Stephen Woods & wife Mary of Falmouth, ME, David Woods & wife Shannon and Michael Woods all of Wilmington. Mary was one of the first Woods I met after arriving at St. Thomas Parish in February, 1960. Over the years she was gracious and kind. Her hospitality was unlimited. Everyone was warmy welcomed. That welcome especially included invitation to dinner where her husband Joe’s Irish an ancestry was perfrctly celebrated by Mary’s classic summer Potato Salad along with a delightful Italian flavored baked chicken. That was often preceeded by Betty Ann’ perfect “wings”and desert followed with Joe’s hand picked blueberries with a crust no longer available on earth. Requiscat In Pace.
