Mary P. Barysky

November 12th, 2020

Mary P. Barysky (Castronovo), age 82, of Wilmington, passed away at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, on November 10, 2020, with her three daughters by her side.

Mary was born on March 17, 1938, in Boston, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late Salvatore and Josephine Castronovo. Mary was raised in a large and loving Italian family in the North End of Boston. She attended Boston schools and was a graduate of English High School.

In 1956, Mary married the “love of her life” Peter Barysky; the couple resided in Boston for a few years before moving to Wilmington in 1965. Mary and Peter were married for 51 years and shared many wonderful times together with their family before he unexpectedly passed in September of 2007. Mary and Peter raised three wonderful daughters, Patricia, Marie and Deborah; they were the light of her life. Mary loved to spend time with “her girls”; she was a very attentive and loving mother. Mary kept her home and her children impeccable; her devotion to her family was unwavering.

When Mary became a “Nana” it was a role she looked forward to; she adored each and every one of those kids. Mary loved to spoil her seven grandchildren and she never missed an opportunity to attend a gymnastics meet, dance recital, sporting event, school play or anything they were involved in; she was always so proud of them.

Prior to retirement, Mary worked as an Office Manager for Building 19 1/2 in Burlington; she had a great work ethic, endearing personality and wonderful customer service skills. Mary made many life-long friends with her co-workers as well as her customers.

Mary had many talents, hobbies and interests; in her spare time she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Mary designed and created many beautiful gifts that will be forever treasured by her family and friends. One of Mary’s favorite places to go was Cape Cod with her family. Mary loved going to the Senior Center where she was very involved in their many activities and socialized with her friends. Mary loved to go shopping with her daughters and enjoyed going out to lunch with her girlfriends. She was also known to be a “Major” WWE fan and hardly ever missed an opportunity to watch a wrestling match with her grandson Jonathan.

Mary will be fondly remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was kind, caring and generous to everyone she met. Mary loved her family with all her heart and she will forever be missed.

Mary was the beloved wife of 51 years to the late Peter P. Barysky, devoted mother of Patricia M. Ritchie & her late husband Steven of Lawrence, Marie J. Mason & her husband William of Wilmington and Deborah A. Moussalem & her husband Charlie of Methuen, loving “Nana” of Peter, Patrick and Philip Ritchie, Olivia and Jonathan Mason, Gregory Barysky and Ava Moussalem. Cherished daughter of the late Salvatore and Josephine (LaGrassa) Castronovo, dear sister of Concetta Castronovo and Joseph Castronovo and his wife Christine all of Wilmington, the late Carlo Castronovo and his wife Kathleen of North Reading. Mary is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends will gather for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St. (Rte. 38), Wilmington, on Saturday, November 14th at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Masks are required to be worn while in Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Nichols Funeral Home, Wilmington. www.nicholsfuneralhome.com
