Mary Rose Lunetta

Mary Rose Lunetta (Cavaretta), age 86, of Wilmington, died peacefully on December 16, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born in Revere, MA, on June 25, 1929; she was the cherished daughter of the late Leonard and Rose (Amata) Cavaretta. Mary was raised and educated in Revere and a member of a large and loving Italian family.

Mary married her “sweetheart” Joseph Lunetta on September 6, 1948; the couple lived in Medford for several years before moving to Wilmington in 1960 where they raised three wonderful children; Linda, Joe, and Ricky. Mary and Joe spent over 67 years together, they were the best of friends who loved to travel, spend time with their family and friends, or enjoy their home; whatever they were doing they did it together.

Mary loved being a wife and mother, family always came first; she made a nice home for her family as they grew and she took pride in everything they did. When Mary’s children married she welcomed her new in-law’s into her family with open arms and made them feel as if they were her own.

Mary cherished her role as “Grandma” to Kristina, Sally, Richard, Joseph, Ryan, and Jesse; she was always there for every accomplishment in their life and she treasured every moment spent with them. Mary’s grandchildren were such a bright spot in her world.

Mary was a wonderful cook, baker, and hostess; she enjoyed getting the family together as often as possible and spent countless hours preparing the family gatherings and holidays; Mary just loved to make everyone around her happy.

Mary spent many years working in the accounting department at Sweetheart Plastics in Wilmington. Mary was dependable, hardworking, courteous and very pleasant to her co-workers; Mary made many friends at the company throughout her years at work.

Mary will be fondly remembered for her sense of humor and her endearing personality. Mary was always willing to do for others, she was so easy to get along with and she made everyone feel welcomed. Mary was truly a “one of a kind” lady and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mary was the beloved wife of Joseph E. Lunetta, devoted mother of Linda Bandoni & her husband Jack of Gloucester, Joseph Lunetta & his wife Cathy of Derry, NH, and Richard Lunetta & his wife Shirley of Burlington. Loving “Grandma” of Kristina Bandoni, Sally Lunetta, Richard Lunetta, Joseph Lunetta, Ryan Menize, and Jesse Menize. Cherished daughter of the late Leonard and Rose (Amata) Cavaretta, dear sister of the late Frank Cavaretta and Antonina Karedes. Mary is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Family and friends gathered at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Saturday, December 19th at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 11:00 a.m. Interment took place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting Hours were held at the Funeral Home on Friday, December 18th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations in Mary’s name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

    Our sincere sympathies to all of you at this time. I remember Mrs. Lunetta over the years from the time Rick and I were in Cub Scouts together and her involvement in the church Christmas fairs. May she rest in peace.
