Maureen A. Duggan

March 2nd, 2018

Maureen A. Duggan, age 70, of Billerica, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 1, 2018.

Maureen was born on January 23, 1948 in Medford, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late Charles Edward and Violet Marie (Ronco) Duggan. Maureen was raised in Wilmington as part of a large, loving family. She graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1966.

Maureen worked as an Administrative Security Specialist at Mitre Corp. in Bedford for over twenty years.

Family was everything to Maureen; she was a devoted and loving mother to her four children: Laurie, John, Kathleen, and Christine. When Maureen became a “Nana” her world became even brighter; Maureen cherished her role, she adored her grandchildren and the time they spent together. She was a source of comfort for her family; they could rely on her for anything they needed. Maureen also looked forward to spending time with her extended family and friends; she attended countless “Duggan Cousins” reunions over the years where they shared many laughs, caught up on the gossip, and had a great time just being together.

Maureen loved to be social; she was always up for a good laugh or cup of tea with her family or spending time with her girlfriends. She was a wonderful friend to many; Maureen was a loyal person and a confidant, she was always there to lend a hand, a listening ear, or just to give you some good advice. Maureen also looked forward to good conversations and cherished her connections with life-long friends.

Maureen always looked forward to spending time “outdoors”; she loved to garden, go fishing and camping; just anything to get out into the sunshine and fresh air. In her spare time, Maureen enjoyed traveling; she loved to go on day trips, where she went antiquing or to scope out a yard sale, hoping to find something special. Maureen also liked to drive along the Mohawk Trail with her family to enjoy the scenery. She loved spending time at the beach; whether it was the ocean or Lake Winnipesaukee, it didn’t matter to her.

Maureen will be remembered for her unconditional love and devotion to her family and friends; she was the best mother, daughter, sister, Nana, cousin and friend you could ask for. Maureen had a big heart and would go out of her way to help anyone in need; she was certainly a bright light in many people’s lives and she will forever be missed by all who loved her.

Maureen was the devoted mother of Laurie A. Hersom, John A. Hersom, Jr. & Christine and Gillian Bingham, Kathleen M. Vierling & her husband John all of Billerica, and Christine M. Murray & her husband Brian of Derry, NH. Loving “Nana” of Katelyn Murray, Shawn Murray, Austin Vierling, and Olivia Vierling. Cherished daughter of the late Charles and Violet (Ronco) Duggan, dear sister of Barbara Morse & her husband Robert of Northport, FL, Janet Duggan of Wilmington, and Charles Duggan & his wife Elizabeth of Londonderry, NH. Maureen is also survived by a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Tuesday, March 6th from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon immediately followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.

Condolences to my cousins the Hersom and Duggan families, and our extended large family and friends. I can imagine Maureen making one of her straight face hilariously sarcastic comments about this. She always made me laugh, even at the most trying times which made her all the more relatable and lovable.
    Peace, love and empathy,
Cousin Rachel and her sons, David, Desmond and Lucas

  4. Diana (Imbimbo) Miladin says:

Dear Barbara, Janet and Chucky, my heart goes out to you in this sad time. Maureen was the sweetest and kindest person anyone could know. It was always a pleasure to be with her. Yet she suffered much in her life. Still it never changed her. I know how much you will miss her, but I hope you will take comfort in knowing she is with the angels like herself now and will feel pain no more.

  5. Cousin Rosie & John Yokoff says:

    Laurie, John, Kathy & Chrissy,
Your mother was one of the sweetest and most kind of people and was a special member of our family. I have so many fun memories of being with her and you when we were all growing up – when I think of her I hear her laugh and see her smile. She was always such a loving mother, and we will all miss her very much. Stay strong in life and make her proud; she raised a fine bunch of coconuts! Love to you from cousin Rosie and John.
