McNevin, Alice

April 24th, 2011

Alice B. (Doyle) McNevin, age 72, of Wilmington, formerly of Woburn, died peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2011, at the Winchester Hospital. Alice was born on February 7, 1939, in Woburn, MA, she was the cherished daughter of the late John J. and Catherine E. (Duran) Doyle. Alice was raised and educated in Woburn and was a graduate of Woburn High School.

Alice married the love of her life Edward T. “Ned” McNevin on April 23, 1960. Alice and Ned purchased their first home in Wilmington where they resided for over 40 years, but they never forgot their roots in Woburn and still maintained close ties with their family and friends. Alice and Ned had a great life, together they raised two wonderful daughters, enjoyed five granddaughters, and shared over 42 years of marriage before Ned’s passing in August of 2002.

Alice was very ambitious, she started her career working for the Phone Company, she also worked at MIT/Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington, for several years she was a switchboard operator at Winchester Hospital, and finished her career as an Operations Specialist for Clarke and Reid Moving Company.

In her spare time Alice enjoyed knitting and was an amateur scrap booker, but her real passion was bowling. Alice was a professional candlepin bowler, she bowled in many leagues in Woburn and Stoneham. Alice also taught others to bowl and was in charge of the children’s bowling league in Stoneham.

Alice will be fondly remembered for her devotion to her family, they were the light of her life, and she enjoyed being a wife, mother, and especially a grandmother. Although she missed her husband terribly, she filled her life spending as much time with “her girls” as possible, together they made many special memories to last for years to come.

Alice was the beloved wife of the late Edward T. “Ned” McNevin, devoted mother of Diane A. (McNevin) Parsons and her husband Mark of Derry, NH and Christine M. (McNevin) DeSesa and her husband John of Wilmington, loving grandmother of Jennifer L. Harinandan and her husband Randy, Melissa A. Parsons, Dianne A., Jacqueline M., and Katherine P.
