Minnie Bahia

Minnie (Buffett) Bahia, age 95, of Sarasota, FL, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, MA, previously of Cambridge & Somerville, MA passed away peacefully on August 2, 2018.

Minnie was born on November 22, 1922, in Newfoundland, Canada; she was the cherished daughter of the late Alma (Bungay) and Snook Buffett. Minnie moved to the United States in 1935 at the age of 13 and settled with her family in Somerville, MA, where she was raised and educated.

Minnie married the “love of her life” Walter Bahia in 1944; the couple lived in Somerville for several years before moving to Cambridge in 1950. Minnie and Walter made their home in Wilmington, MA in 1967 where they resided for nearly 40 years before Walter’s passing in 2006.

Minnie was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother; and she and Walter shared over 60 years together, raised a beautiful family, enjoyed their grandchildren and treasured the time they spent with family and friends.

Minnie also had many talents; she was a quite a seamstress who created beautiful doll clothes, and she knitted and crocheted gorgeous afghans and baby blankets that were treasured by family and friends. Minnie was also very smart when it came to playing board games, doing crossword puzzles and figuring out sudoku puzzles. Minnie enjoyed bowling with her friends for many years as well.

Prior to retiring, Minnie, was employed as a Claim’s processor for the Central Insurance Company in Waltham. Minnie’s untiring work ethic and her endearing personality with the customers made her quite successful with the company.

Following the death of her beloved Walter, Minnie moved to Englewood, Florida, to be with family and get out of the harsh New England Winters.

Minnie will be remembered as kind, caring, and very loving to her family and friends. She was truly a wonderful lady and will forever be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Minnie was the beloved wife of the late Walter Bahia, devoted mother of Walter Bahia & his wife Teresa of Sarasota, FL, Michael Bahia & his wife Jasmine of Chelmsford, Richard Bahia & his wife Rita of Cape Coral, FL and Rochelle Arinella & her late husband Bo of Methuen, loving “Nana” to the late Walter Corey, Wendy, Aprile, Walter James, Alanna, Brian, Craig, Laura and Tracey, and great-grandmother to Piper, Bennett, Mikala, Steven, Amanda, Corey, Sarah, and Alex, cherished daughter of the late Snook Buffett and Alma Buffett Pendergast, dear sister of Betty Aprile & her husband Arnie of Wilmington, the late Ruth Stewart and late brother Albert Bungay. Minnie is also survived by her sister-in-law, Freida Bungay of Newfoundland, Canada as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rt. 62) Wilmington on Tuesday, August 7 th , at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, at 12:00 noon. Internment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, August 6th , from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m.

Memorial donations in Minnie’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
