Morrice, Paul

January 20th, 2011

Paul A. Morrice, age 87, a long-time resident of Wilmington, died peacefully at home on Thursday, January 20, 2011, with his loving family at his side.

Born in Panama City, Panama, on December 17, 1923, Paul was the son of the late Alexander and Bertha (Foley) Morrice. As a small child, Paul became a naturalized citizen of the United States and settled with his family in Reading, MA.

Paul graduated from Reading High School and went on to Boston University where he took classes in bookkeeping and accounting. He enlisted in the United States Army where he took many training classes to earn his Pilots wings and served as a fighter pilot during World War II. While in the Army Paul was an Assistant Officer in charge of training other pilots and students. After proudly serving his country, Paul was honorably discharged on February 13, 1946.

When Paul returned from his duty, he married Wilmington girl, Evelyn C. Babine in 1947 and moved to Wilmington where they raised their two children. The family enjoyed camping in Maine, waterskiing, and traveling. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. Paul and Evelyn spent over 30 years together before her passing in 1978.

Paul always worked hard to provide for his family, he was a salesman for Metropolitan Insurance Company for many years and had his own painting business on the side, but his health forced him to take an early retirement.

Paul was lucky enough to find love for the second time, marrying Audrey Milligan on November 8, 1980. The couple had a wonderful life together and blended their families, they loved to travel with family and friends and enjoyed their trips to Hawaii. They loved to garden and were avid gardeners, Paul grew cabbages that weighed more than 10 pounds along with tomatoes weighing in at three pounds or more, they also received Wilmington’s “Silver Spoon” award for the peas that they produced in their garden. Paul and Audrey were married for over 25 years before she passed four years ago.

Paul will be fondly remembered as a hard worker and a devoted family man, he loved his family and extended family with all his heart and they will miss him dearly.
