Mary F. (McCabe) Murphy, age 75, of Wilmington, died unexpectedly, Thursday, April 16, 2009, at the Winchester Hospital.
Born in Charlestown on December 6, 1933, Mary was the daughter of the late Cornelius & Margaret (O’Brien) McCabe. Mary was raised in Charlestown and was a graduate of St. Clement’s High School in Somerville. She spent her summers with her family at their cottage at Silver Lake in Wilmington.
Mary married William F. Murphy on August 4, 1951 and they celebrated over 57 years of marriage. Mary & William moved to Wilmington in 1952, where they raised their six children. In earlier years Mary was very active at St. Dorothy’s Church in Wilmington , where she belonged to the Ladies Sodality.
In her spare time Mary loved to read, and do ceramics. She also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, taking trips to Foxwoods, Siesta Key, Florida, the coast and beaches of Maine and New Hampshire and to her daughter’s cottage in Lake Suncook, NH. She was an avid New England Sports Fan who enjoyed following the Patriots, Red Sox, and Celtics. But most of all Mary was very devoted to her family, she loved spoiling her grandchildren and having a house full of family every day of the week. They will miss her dearly.
Family & friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Monday, April 20th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St., Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday, April 19th from 4-8 p.m.
Memorial donations in Mary’s name may be made to Local Heroes Inc., P. O. Box 536, Wilmington, MA 01887.
