Norinne M. Markey

July 29th, 2014

Norinne M. (Joyce) Markey, age 91, a long-time resident of Wilmington, died peacefully on July 27, 2014.

As a young girl, Norinne lived in Medford before moving with her family to Wilmington in the early 1930’s. Norinne was raised and educated in Wilmington.

Norinne married the “love of her life” John L. Markey, better known as Leo to his family and friends. Norinne and Leo had a great life together. They raised a beautiful family and enjoyed the simple things in life.

Norinne was always very giving of her time to others. For many years she volunteered at the Voting Poles and at countless town meetings for the town of Wilmington. Norinne was an active member of the Wilmington Women’s Club where she was involved in many fundraisers over the years and she was also an active member of the Wilmington Senior Center where she volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels to other senior citizens who were house bound.

In her spare time, Norinne enjoyed bowling, working out in the yard with her husband Leo, going out for breakfast or lunch with her friends and of course baking her countless treats that she shared with everyone.

Norinne will be fondly remembered as the “Matriarch” of her close knit family. Norinne was very devoted to her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt. There wasn’t anything Norinne wouldn’t do for her family. Norinne loved getting everyone together for holidays and family celebrations. She was very proud of her family and her love for them was unconditional.

Norinne was quite a lady. She was very generous with her time and talents. She was very kind and considerate of others and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Norinne was the beloved wife of the late Wilmington Police Officer John “Leo”
Markey, devoted mother of John L. Markey, Jr. of Hampstead, NH, Maggie Lewis and her husband Bill of North Reading and Mary Levey and her husband Charlie of Rochester, NY. Loving “Gran” of Christopher, Cynthia, and Melissa Markey, Meghan Waldron and her husband Shane, Brian Lewis and his wife Colleen and
great-granddaughter Lainey Waldron. Dear sister of the late Kathleen Burns, John Joyce, Jr., Rita Motyl and Cornelius “Neil” Joyce. Norinne is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
