Parsons, Bertha

Bertha G. (Viecelli) Parsons, age 90, of Wilmington, passed away on July 31, 2011.

Bertha was born on January 31, 1921 in Jamaica Plain, she was raised and educated in the Boston area. Bertha was the daughter of the late Charles and Genefefer (Zucco) Viecelli, she grew up in a large Italian family and was one of fourteen siblings.

Bertha married Albert Parsons in 1945 and moved to Wilmington in 1959, where they raised their family. Bertha and Albert shared over fifty years of marriage and had a very active life before his passing in August of 1995. In their younger years, Bertha and Al loved to roller skate and won many competitions, they also loved to dance and socialize, they were very active and had lots of friends.

Bertha was an active member of the Tewksbury /Wilmington Lodge of Elks Emblem Club and she was the “Queen” of bingo. Bertha and Al loved to travel, they enjoyed Las Vegas and going cross country visiting many states, they wintered in Arizona until they retired and settled in Uma, Arizona for many years, constantly returning to the East Coast to be with family.

Bertha will be remembered for her many talents, she was an excellent seamstress and made many wedding gowns, prom dresses, and special occasion outfits for her family and friends. She was an amateur artist, she loved to paint and do crafts, sharing many of her creations.

Bertha was very devoted to her family, she was very caring and giving not only to her family but to her extended family and countless friends.

She will be fondly remembered for her feisty personality and wit, she was a true character with a heart of gold. Bertha will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Bertha was the beloved wife of the late Albert L. Parsons, devoted mother of Diane Marr and Leslie Ardizzone both of Bradford, Linda Surprenant, Wayne Parsons & his wife Maureen all of Wilmington, Allen Parsons & his wife Colleen of Hewitt, NJ, Robin Czarnota & her husband Joe of North Reading, the late Janet O’Toole and Patricia Griffin, Bertha was also the loving grandmother of Frank Marr, the late Dana Surprenant, Kimberly Bradley, Tommy Carbone, Paul McCabe, Angel McCabe, Kerry Parsons, Kevin Parsons, Ryan Parsons, Erica Parsons, John Parsons, Ava Jeanne Czarnota, and great-grandchildren Shannon, Leigh, Michael, Tayla, Madison, Anthony, Asher, Flynn, Dugin, Delia, Seanna, and Eva.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service on Wednesday, August 3rd at 9:30 a.m. at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte, 62), Wilmington. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd from 4-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations in Bertha’s name may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, One Bullfinch Place, 2nd Floor, Boston, MA 02214.
