Reed, Jonathan

April 5th, 2009

Jonathan M. Reed, age 24, a life-long resident of Jones Ave in Wilmington, died unexpectedly, on Sunday, April 5, 2009, at the Winchester Hospital.

Born in Stoneham, MA, on April 22, 1984, Jonathan was the beloved son of Mark E. & Ruth L. (Porter) Reed.

Jonathan had a seizure disorder at an early age as a result of immunizations he received as a baby; this left many challenges and handicaps for Jonathan and his family to face.

Thanks to the modifications made possible to the family home by the Wilmington Community, and special thanks to Joe Langone and the late Dick Stewart of Northeastern Development Corp., Jonathan was able to live at home with his family where they could care for him and enjoy his company. Also, a special thank you to Diane Porter, the nurses, CNA’s and staff at Excel Home Care in Tewksbury for the wonderful care and help they gave to Jonathan and his family, which also allowed him to stay at home.

Jonathan started his education at the Professional Center for Handicapped Children in Andover. He then attended New England Pediatric Center in North Billerica and, as an adult, attended C-Marc in Woburn.

At home Jonathan was very vocal, enjoyed all the family activity around him and loved the many day care kids his mother cared for. He loved to go camping and traveling with his family, especially to Old Orchard Beach in Maine. Jonathan was also a member of the Wilmington Congregational Church family all his life and their love and support is most greatly appreciated by his family.

Besides his parents who survive him, Jonathan was the loving brother of Rebecca L. Dineen and her husband William of Manchester, NH, Daniel J. Reed and David M. Reed both of Wilmington, cherished “Uncle Johnny” of Brayden & Andrew Dineen, who were always looking for him at every visit, dear grandson of Audrey & the late Clarence “Larry” Reed and George & the late Lena Porter all of Wilmington, formerly of Bedford. Jonathan is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jonathan brought much joy and strength to his family, friends, and those around him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

His funeral service will be held in the Congregational Church of Wilmington, 220 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, on Friday, April 10th at 10:00 am. Visiting hours on Thursday, April 9th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jonathan’s memory may be made to Ruth L. Reed for Benefit of Excel Home Care, c/o Citizens Bank, 240 Main St., Wilmington, MA 01887.
