Rhodes, Betty

Betty J. (Bragg) Rhodes, age 66, a long-time resident of Wilmington, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, following a brave battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Betty was born in Clarkesburg, West Virginia on January 23, 1944; she was the cherished daughter of the late Grady and Della (Kirk) Bragg. Betty grew up in West Virginia, she married Donald Rhodes in 1962 and moved to Lynn, MA. Betty and Donald lived in Lynn for 12 years until they moved to Wilmington over 36 years ago.

Prior to her illness forcing her retirement, Betty worked at General Electric for 35 years.

Betty was well known for always being busy, she never stopped whether is was helping someone in need, a friend, neighbor, family member, she was always doing for others and there was nothing she wouldn’t try to fix.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling, and loved her animals.

Betty will be fondly remembered for her love of her family, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a wonderful friend and neighbor. Betty was kind, considerate, helpful, always giving of herself and her time. She will be greatly missed by all.

Betty is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years Donald V. Rhodes, she was the devoted mother of Priscilla Nicolo, loving grandmother of Ricky Williams and his wife Stephanie, Brianna Nicolo, and great-granddaughter Angelina Williams all of Wilmington, she is also survived by four brothers, 2 sisters, many nieces and nephews, her dog “Lady”, and her special niece Cheryl Williams.

Visiting hours will be held at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Friday, August 6th from 5-8 p.m. immediately followed by a Funeral Home Service at 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Betty’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or to a Children’s Charity of your choice.

    I had the pleasure of chatting with Betty many times at the Wolfe’s home, and could tell what a lovely lady she was. I never heard her say an unkind word.
