Elizabeth M. (Nichols) Rice, age 90, a life-long resident of Wilmington, died peacefully at home on Sunday, September 26, 2010, following a lengthy illness.

Elizabeth was born in Wilmington on September 11, 1920, she was the cherished daughter of the late Louis H. & Inez M. ( Holden) Nichols. Elizabeth was educated in Wilmington and was a graduate of Wilmington High School. She was a very active member of the Wilmington United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the Widows Club, the Rebekah Circle, as well as other groups in the church. Elizabeth was also active with the A.I. M. Group and the Wilmington Senior Center before her illness forced her to be homebound. Elizabeth enjoyed going to Bingo and had a talent for ceramics. She loved to go camping with her family, they traveled all over New England and Pennsylvania.

She will be fondly remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she loved her family will all her heart and enjoyed being with them. They will miss her dearly.

Elizabeth was the beloved wife of the late Irving H. Rice, with whom she celebrated over 57 years of marriage before his passing in 1997. She was the devoted mother of Carole Ann Zampese of Bedford, Elwin C. Rice & his wife Sandra, and William P. Rice & his wife Susan all of Wilmington, loving “Grammie” of Carolyn Bumbaca, Kristen Reilly, Pamela DiBiase, David Zampese, Heidi Hourihan, Charles Rice, the late Michael Rice, and great-grandchildren Jacquelyn, Nicholas, Andrea, Berkley, Rory, Kevin, Katti, Tyler, Elizabeth, and Michael, dear sister of the late Richard Rosson, Louise Balser, and Helen Moore, Elizabeth is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service on Wednesday, September 29th at 1:00 p.m. in the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours Tuesday, September 28th from 3-7 p.m.

Memorial donations in Elizabeth’s name may be made to Care Alternatives Hospice, 181 Cedar Hill Road, Marlborough, MA 01752.
