Born in Cambridge, MA, on September 6, 1941; Richard was the cherished son of the late Pasquale S. and Rose (D’Antonio) DeLucia. Richard was raised and educated in Wilmington and a graduate of Wilmington High School. He was from a large, loving and close-knit family who always looked out for each other.
Following graduation, Richard enlisted in the United States Air Force on November 15, 1962 during the Vietnam War. Richard was trained at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas and proudly served the country; he was discharged on November 14, 1968; returning home to his family in Wilmington.
Richard married his “sweetheart” Mary Anne Connors on June 9, 1968, celebrating over 41 years of marriage before her passing in 2010. Richard and Mary Anne raised two wonderful sons Rick and Matt; they were the world to their parents. Richard loved being a “Dad” and “Papa”; he was so proud of his family and of all of their accomplishments. Richard loved to spend time with his sons and grandchildren; they shared many wonderful times together making memories to last a life-time.
Prior to retiring, Richard worked at the State Street Corporation for 32 years, then he become a clerk for the Internal Revenue Service; his devotion to his duties and great work ethic make him quite an asset to his position.
Richard was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Shriner’s Fire Brigade which he was very proud of. Richard enjoyed volunteering his time to help others in need.
Richard will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a very kind man who would do anything for anyone. His unconditional love and devotion to his family and friends was evident in everything he did. Richard loved to travel with his family, especially their trips to Wells, Maine and never missed a family party or celebration. Richard will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Richard was the beloved husband of the late Mary Anne (Connors) DeLucia, loving father of Rick DeLucia and his wife Denise of Walpole and Matthew DeLucia of Lancaster, cherished “Papa” of Brooke, Kaitlyn, Ryan, Tyler, Isabel, Thomas and Joshuah, loving son of the late Pasquale and Rose (D’Antonio) DeLucia, dear brother of Michael DeLucia and his wife Gail of Billerica and Patricia DeLucia of Wilmington, Richard is also survived by his companion Marie Creedon of Billerica, his dear friend Ruthann Solderholm as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many friends.
Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rt. 62), Wilmington on Tuesday, October 11th, from 4-8 p.m. A funeral home service will be held on Wednesday, October 12th at 11:00 a.m. Interment with Military Honors to follow in Wildwood Cemetery.
