Ritchie Joseph Gagnon

December 2nd, 2021

Ritchie Joseph Gagnon, “Rich”, age 52, of Wilmington, passed away suddenly on November 29, 2021.

Rich was born on June 27, 1969, in Salem, MA; he was the cherished son of Laurier, “Larry”, and Joanne (Comeau) Gagnon. Rich grew up in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School in 1987.

Following graduation, Rich went to work for the Beringer Company in Marblehead as an electrical technician until the business was sold. He worked at Dyanetics in Woburn for a short time and then he successfully started his own business in 2003, Rich’s Home Repair. He was very talented and meticulous; he took great pride in his work. His customers raved about the wonderful job he did. If he prepared a home for sale, it sold during the the open house-he was that good. Rich met many wonderful people over the years and was very dedicated to his regular customers.

Rich married Jennifer A. (James) Gagnon on June 22, 1996. They settled in Wilmington where they raised their three wonderful children: Matthew, Amanda, and Cameron. Rich loved spending time with his children; he attended countless soccer games, hockey games and dance recitals. He was so proud of all their accomplishments; Rich was always there to help the kids fix or build things.

Rich was very mechanically gifted and loved working on cars. After years of hard work, he got the muscle car he always wanted, a 2009 Dodge Challenger, designed after his favorite car, the 1969 model. He took it to some car shows with his sons. He really enjoyed maintaining it, detailing it, and driving it to Marblehead and Salem MA.

He enjoyed several special family vacations to Florida, Montreal, Maine, New York and especially the trip to to South Dakota in 2013. He enjoyed many different attractions there, the top things for him were seeing Mount Rushmore, the President Wax Museum and going to the Pioneer Auto Museum in Murdo, SD, where he was given a special opportunity to sit in the Dukes of Hazzard car, “the General Lee”, and sound the horn. It was a very fond memory for him.

Rich loved his family and his dog, Ace. He walked his dog every morning for almost five years. His home was so important to him. He built a huge addition in 2007, a mudroom in 2011 and a new roof in 2020 with the help of his son Matt.

Over the years, Rich enjoyed the outdoors and sports; he enjoyed playing hockey on a work team, running, riding his bike with his uncle Mike, skiing, and fishing. Rich loved to spend time with his family and friends watching his favorite New England sports teams; whether it was the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots or Red Sox, Rich enjoyed them all.

Rich was very religious; he practiced his Catholic faith at St. Thomas in Wilmington. He spent a lot of time watching religious shows. Rich was also passionate about politics; he loved Fox News, Tucker Carlson and many other political talk shows. Rich had a vast knowledge of political current events. He was so proud to be an American in the United States.

Rich was the beloved husband of Jennifer A. (James) Gagnon, devoted father of Matthew Gagnon, Amanda Gagnon, and Cameron Gagnon, cherished son of Laurier and Joanne (Comeau) Gagnon of Peabody, dear brother of Stephen Gagnon, Roland Gagnon & his wife Chris of Danvers and Lisa Legrow & her husband Scott of Beverly, son-in-law of Jesse and Peggy James of Saugus, brother-in-law of Kevin James of Amesbury, Christopher James & his wife Romayne of Newmarket, NH, William James & his wife Laurie of Salem, NH, and David James & his wife Christine of Cinnaminson, NJ. Rich is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Monday, December 6th at 9:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday, December 5th from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
