Robert A. Burns, age 82, of Andover, formerly of Wilmington and Medford, died peacefully surrounded by his family on December 2, 2014. Beloved husband for 58 years of Claire (Driscoll) Burns, devoted father of Robert & Carla Burns of Andover, Daniel & Teresa Burns of Foxboro, Sheila & Kevin Barry of North Andover, Brenda & Matthew Schipper of Florida, James & Gretchen Burns of Andover, Paula & John Kilrain of Colorado, Marsha & James Newhouse of Wilmington and Marialyce Burns of Woburn, Cherished “Grampy” of Brian & Katherine Burns, Jillian & Hannah Burns, Kevin & Maura Barry, Joslyn & Jordan Schipper, James & Matthew Burns, Ella & John Greene, Ryanne & Caroline Newhouse, and Jared Meuse, son of the late Arthur and Ethel (Driscoll) Burns, dear brother of Lorraine Belair of Marlborough.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave, (Rt. 62), Wilmington, on Friday, December 5th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, December 4th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in Robert’s name may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Bay State Branch, 60 Walnut St., Wellesley Hills, MA 02481 or to the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, 200 Springs Road, Bedford, MA 01730. Robert served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.

    Saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. I connected with him at Western Electric and so quickly I realized that he was one a fine man and did he ever enjoy his Family. I remember when he was adding a den to his house and needed something to put over the fireplace and I was able to come to a sullution.
