Robert E. DiGirolamo

Robert E. DiGirolamo, “Bob”, age 84, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2021.

Bob was the beloved husband of the late Gaetanella “Gae” (DePiano) DiGirolamo, devoted father of Mariealana Salamone & her husband Paul of York, ME, Robert E. DiGirolamo, Jr. & his wife Cindy of Barre, MA and Michele Kitanov & her husband Severin of Wilmington, MA. Loving “Grandpa” of Gabriella & Max Kibrick, Nicholas & Maria Salamone, Amanda Salamone, Emily Kitanov and Luke Kitanov. Dear son of the late Ernest and Jennie (DeFiore) DiGirolamo, brother of the late Ernest DiGirolamo and Eileen Mannas. Bob is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Bob was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, and moved to Wilmington in his early years. Graduating from Wilmington High School in 1954, Bob served in the Army and returned to Wilmington to marry Gae, whom he met when they were sixteen years old. The two raised three children in the same house where Bob lived for over fifty-eight years. Bob loved boating, fishing, dock parties and going to the theater. Bob shared his love of musical theater with friends and family members. Bob’s most cherished moments were those when he was surrounded by family and friends, telling stories, and driving his Mustang convertible on a beautiful summer day.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service on Tuesday, June 1st at 11:00 a.m. in the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
