Robert H. Tillotson

Robert H. Tillotson, age 87, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2015 at The Oxford in Haverhill.

Bob was born on March 28, 1927 in Johnson, VT; he was the cherished son of the late Harold and Bernice (Paronto) Tillotson. Bob was raised and educated in Vermont.

Bob enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. on April 1, 1946 in Kearns, Utah. He worked as an Engineer while serving overseas for more than a year. Bob was honorably discharged on September 7, 1947 at Camp Stoneman, California. He always maintained his love for his country throughout his life.

After returning home, Bob married “the love of his life,” Helen (Sheehan) Tillotson on July 23, 1954. The couple shared more than 55 years of marriage before her passing in 2009. Bob and Helen moved to Wilmington, where they raised their four sons; Bob, Jr., George, Harold and Thomas.

Bob worked at Tewksbury State Hospital for more than thirty years. He started his career at the hospital as an orderly. Bob was a great asset to the hospital and with many years of dedicated and loyal service; Bob retired as the Director of Maintenance.

Bob will be remembered for his love of family, they were his greatest joy. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren. In his spare time, Bob took pride in his garden; he especially loved his roses. He will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Bob was the beloved husband of the late Helen (Sheehan) Tillotson, devoted father of Robert H. Tillotson & his wife Mary Ann, George A. Tillotson & his wife Cathy of Ft. Wayne, IN, Harold H. Tillotson & his wife Heather of Wilmington and Thomas J. Tillotson & his wife Gretchen of Brownsburg, IN, loving grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, cherished son of the late Harold and Bernice (Paronto) Tillotson, dear brother of Audrey Bishop of Holden, Jane Dansereau of Vernon, VT, Howard & his wife Marsha Tillotson of Spencer and the late Lloyd Tillotson. Bob is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62) Wilmington, on Monday, March 9th from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 noon. Interment with Military Honors will take place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Memorial donations in Bob’s name can be made to a Charity of One’s Choice.

    I am deeply sorry for your loss. Losing someone in death is so hard. It stings worse than an insect. Although you may be hurting right now, there will be a time when death will be no more and we will be able to see our loved ones, like Robert, resurrected on a paradise Earth.

    Bobby, and family, I was shocked to see this today. I’ m sorry to hear that your Dad has passed. Thoughts and prayers go out to you and your families. I will always have good memories of your parents from our days in corps.
