Rugo, Carmela “Milly”

millierugoCarmela C. (Bonarrigo) Rugo, “Milly”, age 85, of Stoneham, formerly of Wilmington, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at the Winchester Hospital, surrounded by family.

Born on November 2, 1923, in Boston, MA, Milly was the dear daughter of the late Nunzio and Lena (Shepis) Bonarrigo. Milly grew up in Dorchester and was educated in Boston, she graduated Boston Teachers College with her degree in Education. Milly was a teacher in the Woburn Public School System for over 39 years dedicating much of her life to her students. She retired in 1984. Milly lived with her family in Wilmington for over 20 years prior to moving to Stoneham 25 years ago. In her spare time Milly loved to travel and was always helping others. She was very devoted to her family and considered her nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great nephews “her children”.

Milly was the beloved wife of the late Joseph F. Rugo, who passed in 1983, the loving sister of Franklin Bonarrigo of West Barnstable, Frances Curry of Cumberland, ME, and the late Mary E. Joyce and Gloria A. Rothwell, Milly is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Saturday, May 23rd at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 11:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours Friday, May 22nd from 6-9 p.m. Memorial donations in Carmela’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

    Taught with Carmela, my first year teaching, at the Wyman School in Woburn in 1967-68. Always remember her beautiful voice and rapport with the children. Carmela and I had recess duties together and would always discuss the Red Sox. May she rest in peace.
