Russo, Frederick A. Jr.

russo-frederickFrederick A. Russo, Jr., age 72, of Wilmington, died unexpectedly, December 5, 2009.

Born on February 26, 1937, in Malden, MA, Fred was the son of the late Frederick A., Sr. & Annie (Simione) Russo. Fred was raised in Malden and was educated there. He married Ruth M. Silva in 1958, they lived in Malden for several years prior to moving to Wilmington in 1969 to raise their family.

Fred was self-employed for many years as a welder, he was the founder of Dan-Ru Steel Erectors as well as the Winter Construction Companies both located in Wilmington. Fred was very talented and well respected in his profession. Fred also worked for Amtrak for many years, retiring in the mid 1990’s.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, wood carving, and working with stained glass, but nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his beloved grandchildren Nicholas, Caitlin, Emily, and Anthony. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his summer home in New Hampshire. Fred was an active member of both the Wilmington and Tewksbury Senior Centers.

Fred, also fondly known as “Papa” to everyone will be remembered as a hard worker, devoted family man, a loving grandfather, and a good friend. He will be greatly missed.

Fred was the beloved husband of 51 years to Ruth M. (Silva) Russo, devoted father of Lynda A. Walker & her husband Bernard of Hillsborough, NH, Frederick A. Russo III & his wife Nancy of Salem, NH and the late Lisa Russo, loving grandfather of Nicholas, Caitlin, Emily, and Anthony, Fred was one of 19 siblings and is survived by his brothers and sisters Rose Elliott, Mary Beaulieu , Josie Tieri, Frank Russo, Adeline Rasmussen, Albert Russo, Caroline Santolucito, and Amato Russo, also survived by many nieces & nephews.

Family & friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington for visiting hours on Thursday, December 10th from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Dorothy’s Church, Main Street, Wilmington at 1:00 p.m.

Memorial donations in Fred’s name may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
