Ruth A. (Latanowich) Abromovitch-Curtis

March 3rd, 2014

Ruth A. (Latanowich) Abromovitch-Curtis, age 93, a long-time resident of Wilmington, died peacefully on March 2, 2014, at Woodbriar of Wilmington.

Ruth was born on March 31, 1920, in Somerville, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late Henry and Anna (Galvin) Latanowich and the “baby” of a loving family.  Ruth was raised and educated in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School with the Class of 1939.

Ruth married the “love of her life” Charlie Abromovitch; the couple lived in Somerville for several years before relocating to Wilmington in 1958.  Ruth and Charlie had a great life together, raised three wonderful daughters, and shared many great times with their family and friends throughout the years.

Prior to retiring, Ruth worked as an inspector for the Raytheon Company for more than 35 years.  Her dedication, along with her work ethic and charming personality made her a “favorite” amongst her co-workers. Ruth was known to be very talented; as a young girl her artistic ability was very evident and remained with her throughout her life.

Ruth also enjoyed crocheting and sewing; always sharing her creations with her family and friends. In her later years, Ruth became very involved at the Wilmington Senior Center where she enjoyed teaching line dancing and craft classes.  Ruth also enjoyed the many “field trips” to Foxwoods with the senior center where she always claimed that they could “hold her money” until she got back.

Ruth was known to be a character amongst her family and friends. Ruth will be fondly remembered as kind, caring, and most of all lovable.  She was always there to help others whenever she could; her love for her family and friends was unconditional. Ruth was quite a lady; “one of a kind”, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Charles T. “Charlie” Abromovitch, devoted mother of Barbara Carroll and her husband James of Westford, Toni LaRivee and her husband Robert, and Doris O’Connell and her late husband George all of Wilmington, loving “Nana” of Tracey, Leslee, Erin, Nicole, Charleen, Shawn, and Jason, “Nannie No” of 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Ruth was the cherished daughter of the late Henry and Anna (Galvin) Latanowich, dear sister of the late Charles Latanowich, Doris (Latanowich) Shields, and Marion (Latanowich) Collier .  Ruth was also the special aunt of several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main Street (Rte. 38), Wilmington on Friday, March 7th at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN  38105.

Toni and Family, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I have many good memories of her waking into our office, Toni, having more energy than you and I combined. I will always remember her telling us that “You cannot hit a moving target”. I remember that every time I am sitting doing nothing, I will get up and start moving repeating to myself her favorite line. I hope and pray I will live as long as she has and I will keep moving.
