Sidney R. Kaizer

Sidney R. Kaizer, age 89, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at the Wilmington Health Care Center on November 1st, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Medford on May 10, 1924, Sidney was the beloved son of Charles and Jessie (Corkum) Kaizer.  When Sidney was nine he contracted polio and was hospitalized. After leaving the hospital and continuing his recovery, his parents moved the family to Wilmington.  Sidney attended Wilmington Public Schools and attended Wilmington High School. 

Sidney left Wilmington High to enlist in the United States Army and proudly served our country during World War II.  He spent time in the Aleutian Islands as well as India and Burma.  Following his Honorable Discharge from the Army, Sidney spent several years in the Navy Reserves.  Upon his return from the service, Sidney finished high school and received his High School Diploma. 

Sidney married the love of his life, Anne Whitehouse, in 1965, and together raised their family in Wilmington.  Sidney worked hard to support his family, spending 37 years working at the Wilmington Post Office.  Family was very important to Sidney.  He enjoyed watching his children grow up and get married and recently, enjoyed the company of two grandchildren, they were the light of his life. 

Sidney enjoyed spending time working on the house, he was a clever handyman, he also loved spending time outdoors and in his garden; raising his own chickens, ducks and turkeys. Among his many interests, he also had a love for painting and avidly followed the Red Sox.

Sidney was very involved in the community.  He was the treasurer of the Redevelopment Committee for the Town of Wilmington.  He was involved in many organizations, the Elks, the Shriners, the VFW and was a member of the Masons organization for over 50 years. 

Sidney was the beloved husband of Anne (Whitehouse) Kaizer of Wilmington.  He was the loving father of Edward Kaizer and his wife Mary of Wilmington, Annemarie Clark and her husband Ron, Cathleen Brown and her husband Jaythomas, all of North Andover, and the late Daniel Kaizer. Sidney leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Samuel and Charlotte Kaizer. He was the dear brother of Beatrice Chapman of Waterville, ME and the late Eleanor Young and Charles Kaizer. Sidney is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service on Wednesday, November 6th at 11:00 a.m. at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington.  Interment to follow with military honors in Wildwood Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, November 5th from 4 to 8 p.m.  Memorial donations in Sidney’s name can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311 or Global Polio Eradication Initiative, 20 Avenue Appia, Geneva 27, 1211 Switzerland.
