smith, marionMarion F. (Costello) Smith, age 84, of Reading and Wilmington formerly of Wakefield, passed away quietly in her family home early Wednesday morning, March 24, 2010.

Marion was born in Melrose, Massachusetts on September 6, 1925, to Frank D. and Marion F. (Kennedy) Costello, she is survived by her sister Margaret Allen of Hopedale and was pre-deceased by her brother John Costello of Wakefield and Elizabeth Rock of Byfield. Marion was the beloved wife of the late Richard F. Smith, Jr., who passed away in August 1999. She will be dearly missed by her two children Jean Marie Hurrell & her husband Philip of Wilmington and Richard F. Smith III of Reading, Marion was the cherished “Nani” of Marie and Kara Mae Hurrell of Wilmington and Kevin James and Kendra Elizabeth Smith and great grandson Everett Matthew Foster all of South Carolina. She also leaves two wonderful care giving friends Mary Carbone of Tewksbury and Wendy Tribou of Billerica.

Marion was a member of the Low Vision Group in Reading as she was legally blind the last 15 years of her life due to Macular Degeneration. She was a communicant of Saint Joseph’s Church in Wakefield. The last few years of her life was spent with her daughter and her family in Wilmington.

A Mass to Celebrate Marion’s life will take place on Saturday, March 27th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield. She will be laid to rest with her husband in Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading.

In lieu of flowers donations in Marion’s name may be made to the VNA of Middlesex-East & Visiting Nurse Hospice, 607 North Ave., Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.
