Ross F. Spinelli, age 69, of Wilmington, died August 11, 2009 at the Boston Medical Center after a brief illness.
Ross was born in Punxsutawney, PA on July 9, 1940, and attended high school there. Ross excelled at baseball, the sport he loved most. He played baseball and basketball all four years in high school and was coached by the late Chuck Daly.
Ross joined the US Navy in 1959, served until 1965, and was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. Ross met his wife, Joanne, while stationed in Boston in 1961. The couple resided in Everett and Malden prior to settling in their new home in Wilmington in 1969. Ross coached Wilmington Little League baseball and basketball teams and drove the senior’s van for a short time.
Ross enjoyed holidays, watching sports, reading, working, being outdoors and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved baseball and football, was an avid Pirates and Steelers fan and became an adopted New England sports fan. He enjoyed watching his grandsons play baseball. Ross cherished people, maintaining friendships with former co-workers and with people around the world. Ross was a devoted family man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Ross was the beloved husband of Joanne (Enos) Spinelli, devoted father of Ross F. Spinelli, Jr. & his wife Maria and Mark A. Spinelli & his wife Jennifer all of New Hampshire, cherished grandfather of Anthony, Nicolas, Domenic, Gianna, and Novena, dear son of the late Frank & Beulah (Salsgiver) Spinelli, loving brother of John Spinelli of Ohio and Rose Zarecky of Virginia.
Family & Friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62) Wilmington, on Monday, August 17th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St., Wilmington, at 10:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours Sunday, August 16th from 4-8 p.m.
