Surrette, Gladys

surrettegladysGladys M. Surrette, age 83, a life-long resident of Wilmington, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at the Saints Medical Center in Lowell following a lengthy illness.

Born June 27, 1925, in Woburn, MA, Gladys was the beloved daughter of the late Walter A. & Beatrice M. (Surprenant) Surrette. Gladys grew up in Wilmington and was a graduate of Wilmington High School. She earned her degree in Nursing at the Lowell General School of Nursing and trained with the Cadet Corps. Gla dys was a registered nurse at the Baker Memorial Hospital and started out in the Patient Urgent Care Department. Gladys was responsible for starting the Post Operating Recovery Unit at Baker Memorial which was part of Massachusetts General Hospital. She retired from Massachusetts General Hospital after many years of dedication to the medical profession and her patients. Gladys was awarded several citations for her expertise and patient care.
Gladys was the dear sister of Paul Surrette & his wife Peggy of Wilmington, Joseph Surrette & his wife Alice of Lowell, and the late Walter Surrette and Robert Surrette, sister-in-law of Janet Surrette and Dorothy Surrette. Gladys is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Family & friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Saturday, June 6th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas Church at 12:00 noon. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours Friday, June 5th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.

Memorial donations in Gladys’ name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
