Virginia A. (McCarthy) (Maio) Swan, age 79, of Wilmington, formerly of Lowell, died January 20, 2011.

Beloved wife of the late Adam Maio and the late Willard Swan, devoted mother of Robert Maio & his wife Lena and David Maio & his wife Joyce all of Merrimack, NH, Gail Bowen & her husband James of Amherst, NH, Linda Chamberland of Hudson, NH, and Daniel Maio & his wife Suzanne of Pelham, NH, loving Grandma of 13 and Great-grandma of 4, cherished daughter of the late Edward & Elizabeth McCarthy, dear sister of Mary McCarthy, John McCarthy & his wife Anita all of Lowell, and the late Dorothy Gibson, Helen Counter, Paul McCarthy, and Edward McCarthy, loving step-mother of William Swan & his wife Nancy of Byfield, Kathleen Severino & her husband Paul of Concord, Peter Swan & his wife Deborah of Indianapolis, IN, Alan Swan & his wife Mimi of Candia, NH, Susan Bagrowski and Mary Tufts both of Billerica, John McCormick & his wife Sheila of Woburn, Barbara Spiritus of Wellington, FL, and Winifred Gagnon of Medway, and beloved Nannie to their 37 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Virginia is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service in the Wilmington Congregational Church, 220 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, Monday, January 24th at 10:00 am. Visiting hours Sunday, January 23rd from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington.

Memorial donations in Virginia’s name may be made to V.N.A. of Middlesex East Hospice House, 320 Haverhill Street, Reading, MA 01867.
