Sweet, Naomi

Naomi B. (Scranton) Sweet, age 97, of Wilmington, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center, in Burlington, following a brief illness.

Born on October 5, 1911, in Pleasant Hill, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. & Orpha (Long) Scranton.

Naomi grew up in Pleasant Hill, IL, she graduated from Weslyan University with a Bachelor’s Degree in education and was employed as a school teacher in Pleasant Hill and Barry, Illinois, retiring in 1971. Naomi moved to Wilmington several years ago to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law and was an active member of the Abundant Life Christian Center and their Bible Study Group.

Naomi was the beloved wife of the late Cullen B. Sweet, devoted mother of William D. Sweet & his wife Pat of Wilmington and the late Ruth Ann Sweet, loving grandmother of Julia Sweet of San Antonio, TX, Naomi is also survived by many relatives in Illinois.

Visiting hours will be held at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Wednesday, April 15th, from 1:00-3:00 p.m., with Rev. Ron Grimley officiating a prayer service at 2:30 p.m. Interment will take place in the family lot at Crescent Heights Cemetery, in her home town of Pleasant Hill, Illinois at a later date.
